Impromptu Summer Nights With Warby Parker
I’m excited to collaborate with Warby Parker on this post and introduce their new Beacon collection. Inspired by impromptu, can’t duplicate all-nighters with friends, the Beacon collection presents frames and sunglasses designed to be the fine companion to late night dates, rooftop sunrises, and everything in between. Summers in DC are all about entertainment al fresco, so I am going to share some of my favorite DC spots for impromptu activities and my favorite Warby Parker frames that best accompany my adventures.
P.O.V. Roof Terrence at the W Washington, D.C.
P.O.V. is the perfect place to impress out-of-towners with spectacular views of the White House and the National Mall. Located a short walk from the White House, this is the perfect spot to rest in the shade and enjoy a drink after visiting DC museums and monuments.  I celebrated my graduation here with some close friends and enjoyed the cocktails and desserts. Rooftops as glamorous as this one require a fabulous pair of sunglasses and Nancy is the perfect companion because of her oversized – lenses and bright gold color.
All over the DC area there are free outdoor movies, but NoMa Summer Screen is close to my heart because it’s in my neighborhood and the movies are quite good. People set up shop long before the movie starts to order from food trucks, listen to music and sip on homemade cocktails. Just a block from the NoMa metro station, this outdoor theater is a great spot to catch up with friends and watch classics like Clueless, When Harry Met Sally and Top Gun. If you have eye sight like mine, not even a big screen can help, so my Warby Parker companion would be McKee in moonstone. I love how retro these clear frames look.
Jazz in the Garden – The National Gallery of Art, Sculpture Garden
Jazz in the Garden is a seasonal happy hour that the National Gallery of Art hosts inside their amazing sculpture garden. Bring a blanket and your artsy specks to sit in the grass, enjoy the music and watch the crowd. Â I have gone a couple of time this summer and had a blast chatting with old friends over a pitcher of sangria and homemade empanadas. I love the boldness of dark frames, making Garrett in oak barrel the perfect compliment to an artsy outfit.
Rooftop pools are the ultimate luxury on a hot summers day, and the Penthouse Pool really fits the bill. Whether you’re there during the day or at night, it’s the only spot on my list where it’s preferred to be in your bathing suit.  I love the cocktails here and if you get a chance to visit, I suggest the Jalapeño Margherita. Located on the rooftop of a gym, this place is all about the view of the people rather then the view of the city. My Warby Parker companion would be Ingram in black because everyone needs a dark pair of shades to cruise eye candy around the pool.
Brunch: Poste Moderne Brasserie & Le Diplomate
Brunch is my favorite summer pass time. I just love breakfast and mimosas seem to make any meal better. But in the summertime, brunch moves outside to patios and rooftops and is the perfect beginning to a day of shopping with girlfriends or an adventurous #sundayfunday. Poste Moderne Brasserie is the perfect meeting spot for brunch and happy hour because its location is among some of the best shops in Penn Quarter. But what makes this place so special is the beautiful courtyard/urban farm that surrounds the restaurant. Le Diplomate has more of an urban flair that authenticates a Parisian cafe. With delectable food and cafe-like outdoor seating, Le Diplomate is chic and trendy, making it the perfect place to start a #sundayfunday. The Garrett shades in blue slate fade are a classic style in a trendy color, making it the perfect companion for a brunch date.
DC is the perfect spot for an impromptu weekend away and just like the Beacon collection, it offers something for everyone. Shades and specs like these are a necessity for any summertime activity, even if you’re just running errands. I hope you enjoy my little guide to DC, and if you ever get a chance to visit, I hope you enjoy these special spots as much as I do. Here are some additional photos of the new Beacon collection from Warby Parker.
Make sure to check out the Beacon Collection on the Warby Parker website. If your like me and don’t have a Warby Parker in your neighborhood, they have a great Home Try-On program. What makes Warby Parker glasses and shade so special is that by purchasing a pair you will help give a pair of glasses to people in need. Buy a Pair, Give a Pair is a Warby Parker nonprofit in partnership with VisionSpring. They train people in developing countries to give eye exams and sell glasses in their communities at affordable prices. Your purchase not only gives a person in need a pair of specks but it also gives them a sustainable future. Make sure to leave me a comment on what you think about the new Warby Parker Beacon collection and if you have ever been to my favorite DC spots.
