Style Me Friday – Pink Pants

Slide1I’ve been a long time reader of The Fashionista Next Door and I have been waiting for a #StyleMeFriday to participate in. When I found out that pink jeans (or pants, leggings, whatever) were the focus of this week’s #StyleMeFriday, I got really excited. So excited, that I recreated TWO outfits!

First is this pastel outfit. Don’t pastels make you think of Easter?

I didn’t have a mint colored sweater, so I substituted a beige sweater instead.

Jeans, Dorothy Perkins. Bag, Shoedazzle. Shoes, Aldo.

How did I do recreating the outfit?

DSC_0016Sweater & scarf, H&M. Shirt, Old Navy.

This scarf has never made it to my blog despite being one of the most used items in my closet.

DSC_0025I noticed in the inspiration photo that the girl was wearing a stack of bracelets, so I piled on a watch from JustFab, and bracelets from ASOS and Jewelmint (and also included one I made myself).

This was the inspiration for the second outfit. There is such a cool vibe about this photo.

Although the inspiration outfit had a casual vibe, my take was more work-appropriate. BUT the pink pants still work well.

DSC_0054I LOVE this coat that I got from Dorothy Perkins. The leather sleeves toughen up anything you wear it with.

DSC_0045After doing the 30 x 30 remix challenge for so long, it was nice to take a break and participate in #StyleMeFriday. I wonder what will be in store next week. Check out The Fashionista Next Door, I love how adventurous she is with her style. Plus check out her #StyleMeFriday Pinterest board to see the other outfits she’s recreated.

Outfit #17 – Grey Day

30 x 30 Remix Challenge

Outfit #17

DSC_0024Just because I’m wearing grey, it doesn’t mean I’m depressed. I love grey as a neutral. It’s a little bit softer than black but just as basic. The challenge this time was wearing this skirt with tights because last time I wore it was with bare legs.

I also had the preconception that this skirt would only look good with heels, but I think I was wrong. The ankle boots look fine, though I must say, I do prefer the way my legs look in heels (but who doesn’t?).

DSC_0037Bag, Shoedazzle. Bracelet, Jewelmint. Skirt, Stylemint.

What I love most about this gray, monochrome outfit is that the blazer makes it look work-appropriate. Considering how form-fitting this skirt is, I never thought that would be the case.

DSC_0034Sweater, NY&Company. Blazer, Forever21.

I think the pops of white in the blazer and the bag really make the outfit more interesting than if I just wore a plain, black blazer and carried a basic, black bag. Although this skirt has been a challenge for me in the past, I feel like I NOW have a handle on how I can utilize this skirt. I knew that I bought it for a good reason!

Outfit #16 – The Cold Spring Front

30 x 30 Remix Challenge

Outfit #16

DSC_0002I get it. It’s officially spring, but it’s still COLD (in DC).

DSC_0008Sweater, The Limited. Bag, JustFab.

A little sunshine will NOT have me posting outfits outside with high-heeled sandals, bare legs and light blazers in the name of spring. So, I was happy to wear this sweater.

DSC_0015Skirt, Jason Wu for Target. Shoes Converse.

I was skeptical about wearing tights and sneakers, but comfort overwrote any worries I initially had.

Slide1Last time I wore this skirt and sweater were early on in the remix challenge. What I have noticed is that I like to wear this sweater with BLACK. Although I have worn the sweater with jeans and a skirt, they have both been black. I think the next challenge is wearing this sweater with color, maybe I will try matching it with my blue pants next time.

Slide1What I love about the remix challenge is that is forces me to try new things with my wardrobe. I have never worn this sweater with a skirt, but I will now! I’m so glad that I kept this old sweater around.

Grand Cayman Part II

I’m so lucky to take another trip to the Cayman Islands! Check out pictures from my last trip to the Cayman Islands HERE. For this trip, I showed you some of my inspiration, what I packed and the makeup that was most useful. Now, I can tell you all about my trip.

When I first arrived, I went to happy hour at Camana Bay. This place is like a little neighborhood. It has apartments, shops and great restaurants. My friend and I drank lychee martini’s and munched on crab cakes from Ortanique.

The next day my friend and I went to lunch (again) at Margaritaville for lobster wraps.

Here I am at lunch showing off my new Michael Kors watch! Duty free jewelry is really popular in the Grand Cayman.

The day ended with us watching the sunset on the beach…

and facial masks using Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty.

The next day, we took an amazing snorkeling trip. We got a chance to chill out on a boat (with drinks!) and soak up the sunshine before heading to the coral reefs.

Look how cool this boat is! The front is shaped like a shark’s mouth!

First stop was Stingray City.

The name ‘Stingray’ seems scary but these creatures were docile and slippery. They literally fly in the water.

Next stop was an amazing coral reef. The Cayman Islands is know to have amazing coral reefs and now I know why.

Later that night, my friend and I went to dinner at Grand Old House, because I was craving seafood after snorkeling. We sat on the veranda, listened to the waves crash on the rocks while drinking wine and eating lobster.

The next day I flew back to the States 😦

It was a great trip and I had so much fun. Each time I go to the Cayman’s, I experience something different while also visiting the places that I love. I hope to be back soon.

Outfit 13 – 15 – Slacker Mode

30 x 30 Remix Challenge

Outfit #13, 14 & 15

I’ve been slacking when it comes to the 30 x 30 remix challenge.

Between traveling and working, I have found little time and (sorry to say) motivation to blog, especially about the remix challenge. But things are starting to calm down down a bit and I am just about caught up with life, so I can’t wait to start remixing! I have realized that this challenge so far has NOT been about remixing, but rather pulling clothes out of my closet that I never wore and mixing them with stuff that I love. I have worn all the items in the remix challenge at least once and now feel this is where the real remixing begins. I will have to step out of my comfort zone for the next 15 outfits.

DSC_0016Shirt, Forever21. Earrings, Jewelmint.

Although I love the color of this striped shirt, it fits awkwardly. It seems to do this ride up thing (you can kind of see it in the picture). I don’t know about this shirt, but I do love these earrings.

I wear this denim shirt out, but I wore it over a black tee from Old Navy.

This long sleeve white T was really stressing me out in outfit #12, it seems to work better with pants (maybe). You can see that the back of the shirt is folded over, which seems like a cool detail, but it just stays tucked into the back of my jeans 😦 I cheated and wore the denim shirt again. Ha!

Check back soon. I am half way through my 30 x 30 remix challenge.

Make Me Up In The Caribbean

Hot and humid weather doesn’t compel me to wear tons of makeup. So, I kept it simple for my trip to the Cayman Islands. Here are the products that kept me down on my trip.

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage SC -7

This concealer is amazing! What I like about it is that it’s a DRY concealer, making it perfect for oily skin. It stays in place and blends in perfectly. I find it works best when I use my fingers (instead of a brush). I love that there are two colors in the compact allowing me to mix the product to the perfect color. This is convenient since I am slowly getting more and more tan on my trip.

L’Oreal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Powder in N8 Cappuccino

I have been a fan of these powders for a while, I stock up on them when they are on sale. This shade of Cappuccino is one shade darker than my usual shade of N7 Classic Tan, and I brought it so that it would compliment my tan skin. These powders are so light and airy, I feel like they could make really good matte bronzers for those with fairer skin.

Revlon Lip Butters in Lollipop, Berry Smoothie and Candy Apple

These lip butters are moisturizing and feel more like lipgloss than lipstick. I like how these colors sheer out when I put them on .

Candy Apple

Berry Smoothie

NARS Super Orgasm Illuminator

When you want glitter and glitz, get this. Dab this liquid illuminator anywhere you want to get attention. It has a gold glitter finish that is anything but subtle.

I use this stuff in so many ways; on my brow bone, on my cheek bones, on my decolletage, and on my legs. It is so versatile!

The one thing I didn’t bring on my trip is waterproof mascara, but I have been having some eye allergies and have avoided eye makeup. What makeup do you bring on a trip?

Outfit #12 – Style Lessons

30 x 30 Remix Challenge

Outfit #12

DSC_0001Chambray shirt, Forever21. Cheetah print skirt, Forever21 (altered). Boots, Old Navy. Bracelet, Forever21.

This is a quick update of the 30 x 30 remix challenge. It seems that this style challenge has a theme of facing fears. This long sleeve white shirt from Stylemint has been confusing me, so it has stayed locked up in the closet. I find it overall unflattering and the shirt stretches out throughout the day and loses shape. But I thought that it looked great under my favorite denim shirt (but most things probably do).

DSC_0030Necklace, H&M.

Do you see what I see? I see an unflattering piece of clothing. It makes me feel slightly sloppy as well. Lesson learned! I will be keeping this shirt underneath sweaters and shirts.

Have you learned any fashion lessons the hard way like I have? Let me know.
